Class 38 – Youth Work

Rules and Regulations:
1. 19 years of age and under as of June 30, 2011.
2. No mixes.
3. All food items to be in plastic bags.
4. Cookies and squares to be on suitably sized foil or paper plates in pastic bags.
5. All entries to be in and ticketed by Sept. 9, 2011 at 11:30 am.
6. No entry fee required.
7. All entries to be the work of exhibitor.
8. All entries to be on paper no smaller than 8″ x 10″ and no larger than 18″ x 24″, unless otherwise stipulated.
9. Any children entering adult classes must pay a $5.00 membership fee.
10. One entry per person per class.
11. Each tag must have child′s age in top right corner.
12. Exhibitors to pick up their own exhibits on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 4:30pm after removal by a Director.

How to Enter:
Exhibits may be taken to the arena on Thursday, September 8th 2011 between 7-9 pm, or before 11:30 am on Friday, September 9th, 2011
Directors will be on hand to assist you in filling out entry forms and placing exhibits in the Youth Palace.


Section A – Handicrafts

Prizes: $4.00; $3.00; $2.00

1. Edible necklace.
2. Diorama – favourite movie (in a shoe box).
3. Largest or best maple leaf, pressed or waxed, and mounted on paper.
4. Woodworking – 1 article, not a kit.
5. An article of sewing (fabric sample attached).
6. An Item of clay sculpture – 10 years and under.
7. An Item of clay sculpture – 11 to 19 years.
8. Peiced quilt block – 25cm./10 inches or larger(fabric sample attached).
9. "Welcome" sign for a door – no larger than 16″x16″ – ″Harvest″ theme
10. Unique vechile made from lego,K–Nex, etc. – displayed on a lid or tray.
11. Decorated flyswatter,
12. Decorate a can of juice/food as your favorite cartoon character– items to be donated to food bank after the fair.
13. Bookmark or fridge magnet.
14. Handmade Christmas tree Decoration.
15. Collection from a walk – 6 items, contained in a shoe box
16. Model made from a kit.
17. Re-usable shopping bag made from recycled material
18. Any other craft NOT listed above – 10 years and under.
19. Any other craft not listed above – 11 to 19 years.

Section B – Baking

Use paper plates and place in clear plastic bag.

1. Four peices of fudge.
2. Smartie or M&M cookies, 5.
3. Plate of 3 nutritious snacks.
4. Bake and decorate three cupcakes for a birthday party .
5. Plate of 3 Rice Krispie Squares – decorated for Halloween
6. Loaf of bread, may use bread machine.
7. ″Family Favorite″ – plate of 5 baked goods from an old family recipe (please attach recipe).
8. Brownies – iced, plate of 5

12. "Garden Mix" - arrangement of mixed flowers in a rubber boot

Best homemade bread from contestant under age 16.
Judging will be based on appearance, taste, texture and recipe creativity

6. Robin Hood Floor Best Lunch Box Snack Contest
Best homemade squares or bars, youth division, 12 years and younger.
Judging will be based on appearance, taste, texture and recipe creativity.

O.A.A.S. Youth
Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition
Prizes $5.00; $3.00; $2.00


Open to all Youth ages 10 to 15 years as of December 31, 2011.
8 Chocolate Chip Cookies to be shown, displayed on a firm disposable plate in a plastic bag.
Cookies to be no larger than 3″ (6.75cm) and no smaller than 2″ (5cm).
No nuts to be added.

District Competition
The winner from each fair will be eligible to enter at the District Competition. Same rules apply.

Provincial Competition
The entrant must be the winner from the District Competition.
Same rules as above but with Judging for Provincial Competition according to the OAAS Homecraft Judging Standards

O.A.A.S. Youth Fair Poster Competition
′Promoting Your Fair″

Two Classes
Class A – Junior up to and including Grade 4
Class B – Intermediate Grade 5 to Grade 8
Class C – Senior Grade 9 to Grade 12 Criteria for all classes:
Theme: ′Promoting Arthur Fall Fair″ Must be hand drawn.
Poster size: Minimum – 8 ½″ x 11″ (23cm x 28 cm) to a Maximum – 11″ x 17″ (28 cm x 44 cm)
Each entry must be mounted on a BLACK ART CARD or bristol board showing a 2″ border.

District Competition
The winner at each fair will be eligible to enter at the District Competition. Same rules apply for District.

Provincial Competition
The entrant must be the winner from the District Competition. Same rules as above.

Judging Criteria
1. Overall appearance – 20 points
2. Attract and hold attention – 30 points
3. Competition theme clear – 40 points
4. Quality of materials/end product – 10 points
